Episode #125: Do Not Be Discouraged
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth (Camp Bowie, Magnolia) and Austin (Domain). We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
As we reflect on the work of Martin Luther King, Jr., we are grateful for how his legacy reminds us that the impact of our work can outlive us. MLK and many of his companions labored on good, sacrificial work that remains with us today. Over 50 years later, it’s easy for us to see that their work was impactful, but it likely wasn’t clear in their present moment. At the time, their hope, vision, and impact could have been clouded by the pain of the present.
Do Not Be Discouraged: That’s the crux of sacrificial work – it seems less fulfilling in the present than it becomes as time passes. The protest that you participated in this year or the long, complicated conversation you had with your family might not have resulted in the immediate change you wanted to see in the world. But, it sowed a seed.
Dr. King built a legacy that sowed seeds fighting for racial equality. Those seeds can continue to grow in us today. We believe that much like Dr. King, we likely won’t feel like there is progress in the present, but with a little bit of vision, committed work, and a lot of faithfulness, our labor can bear fruit felt by generations to come.
So, what seeds are you sowing today? Whatever your focus may be, do not be discouraged. Continue to push through. Your work can never be diminished and will impact this world, just as MLK’s did.
